Getting Started
My wife and I have been traveling the world for over seven years and have never paid for an airline ticket or hotel room. Sound too good to be true...read on.
If you want to travel free, have decent credit, can “spend” about $1,000/mo. on a credit card and can pay off your card at the end of the month, keep reading.
I will share some of my favorite credit cards with some added tips and tricks to help you maximize your free travel. Credit card companies offer free miles or points for opening new credit cards with them and meeting certain spend requirements.
There are lots of way to create credit card spend to get credit card bonuses. We put our car insurance, cell phone bill, groceries, entertainment expenses, etc. on credit cards and then pay them off at the end of the month.
Starting out, it is best to think about an airline that is near you and a hotel chain you like.
We happen to live in mid-market area in NC and are close to Charlotte, which is a major hub for American Airlines. Our local airport has Delta, American, Southwest, etc. Just because of the size and number of direct flights, we started out with American Airlines. Also, we would rather fly to more places, so economy or economy plus works great for us rather than one or two flights in first class/business class.
Over time, we have added all the major airlines to our credit card lineup and have traveled for free (other than a small TSA fee everyone pays) for years now.
We also have every major hotel chains’ credit cards and stay in hotels around the world for free.
TIP
Make sure you pay off your balance on your credit card statement each month.
Do you own a business?
These business credit cards are called Chase Ink by Chase Bank. They are amazing credit cards with big bonuses, but the spend to get the bonus is a bit higher.

Chase Sapphire Preferred Visa
This card gives you points that you can use through Chase Bank’s travel portal OR you can transfer to certain airlines and hotels. Think flexibility! A great perk to this card is primary insurance when you rent a car with this card. No more buying the rental car company insurance!

The Amex Gold Card provides an easy $600 reward in Amex Reward Points that can be used for travel or transfer to certain airlines and hotels. While this card has a hefty annual fee, you can offset that cost with things like $10/month restaurant credit, $10/month Uber credit, etc. Those two alone can offset the $250 annual fee.
